Clearwater offers three drifter types to satisfy three different observing requirements: the ClearSat-15 drifter for velocity and environmental measurements in the the surface mixed layer (~0 to 20 m); the ClearSat-1, a near-surface layer drifter for velocity and environmental measurements in the upper meter; and the ADOS surface layer layer observing system for temperature structure measurements to 150 m, as well as observations of environmental conditions at the sea surface.
ClearSat-15 WOCE/SVP Drifter
The Clearsat-15 is designed for mixed-layer investigations of surface velocities. Its specifications include:
- 15-m drogue
- Sea surface temperature instrumentation (standard)
- Barometric pressure instrumentation (optional)
- Wind speed and/or air temperature instrumentation (optional)
- Mixed layer temperature measurements (12.5 and 17.5 m) (optional)
- GPS (optional)
Clearsat-1 CODE Drifter
The Clearsat-1 is a CODE drifter designed for surface layer investigations. Our Riverine Drifter is a modified Clearsat-1 used to measure shallow water velocity profiles and bathymetry. The Clearsat-1's features include:
- 1-m drogue
- Sea surface temperature instrumentation (standard)
- GPS instrumentation (optional)
- Can be enhanced with Argos 3 or Iridium SBD/RUDICS data acquisition packages
ADOS Drifter
The ADOS Drifter is designed to investigate surface layer temperature and pressure, and can carry up to 20 temperature or temperature/pressure sensors stratified from 0 to 200 m. Capable of many special applications, it can also be fitted with:
- High data-rate links for subsurface instrumentation, facilitating measurement of velocity profiles, conductivity, or light
- Surface instrumentation for GPS, sea surface temperature, and barometric pressure (similar to WOCE/SVP models)
